Indoor ideas
Bake a Gruffalo crumble
@0urlovelylot
Who’s afraid of a little rain when there’s a Gruffalo in the kitchen? Grab the kids, pop the Gruffalo Tonie on the Toniebox, and bake up a storm (pun intended) with this woodland-inspired treat. The kids can then imagine the story coming to life as they whip up their very own crumble and custard. Click below for the recipe and instructions:
Turn off the lights, grab a torch and bed sheet, and put on a shadow puppet show inspired by a Tonie story. Budding actors can act out a play with their Tonies behind the bed sheet, with a torch shining from behind.
Play a board game, tonies® style!
How does your family decide which Tonies to listen to? Well @howweplayed2day made this clever board game to help with the decision making! Each player rolls the dice and takes a turn. The first Tonie to reach the end is the one you listen to first. (That’s one way to solve the arguments!)
Laughter is the best medicine for dreary weather! Set up a mini comedy club in your living room and let the kiddies tell their favourite jokes or silly stories. Use the Kids Comedy Club Clever Pocket Tonie for inspiration and giggles – it even includes some stand-up tricks too!
Rainy day spa
Set up a mini spa day indoors. Think face masks (aka yoghurt and cucumber), foot soaks (warm bubbly water in a washing-up bowl), and a relaxing Tonie on the Toniebox. The kids could give their Tonies the ‘spa treatment’ too, with a gentle wipe-down and freshen up.
Outdoor ideas
Puddle jumping
Rain boots? Check. Raincoats? Check. Adventure-ready attitude? Double check! Head outside for some classic puddle jumping fun. Prep the kids by playing Peppa Pig Tonies indoors for some muddy puddle inspiration or the Peter Rabbit Tonie for a woodland twist. Then let their imaginations take over as they splash and stomp their way through the great outdoors!
Go on a bear hunt
@coco_amore_x
Take advantage of the fantastic story from We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by setting up your very own adventure. Get kids in the mood with some bear snacks, a toy camera and their Toniebox. Choose a woodland with some obstacles so you can all sing along to “We can’t go over it. We can’t go under it. Oh no! We’ve got to go through it!”.
Make mud pies
@playdayswithjess
Do you remember making mud pies when you were a child? If so, you'll know that kids are naturally drawn to mud. And when we think of all the learning opportunities, it becomes a lot easier to accept the mess! Mud can provide brilliant sensory experiences and is an open-ended and inexpensive way to play. Whilst they’re playing, pop the George Pig Tonie on the Toniebox for a story about the biggest muddy puddle in the world. Just be sure to place the Toniebox a little way out of reach of muddy fingers – it’s easy to wipe clean, but we’d rather it didn’t get its own mud makeover!
Rain bouncing
Nothing sparks little brains like the wonders of science. Grab some pots and pans, turn them upside down and watch to see how high the rain bounces. Or you could collect the rain instead and measure how much you’ve harvested throughout the day, kiddies can then use the water either in their imaginary play or by watering the flowers and plants around the house. It’s never too early to start them on science projects!
Amy’s favourite Tonie is Matilda. From a very young age, she was utterly obsessed with Matilda. She watched and read it so many times that she practically had the whole script memorised. As she grew older, she remained just like Matilda, a bookworm, a trickster, and a dreamer!
