February half-term activities and days-out for Julia Donaldson fans

We’ve tracked down the best Julia Donaldson themed experiences across the UK, perfect for keeping your little bookworms entertained. And to make these days out even better, we’ve paired them with Tonies – so the fun can continue on the go!

Forestry England Stick Man Trails

First up, we have the Stick Man trails at Forestry England sites. Before heading out, pop the Stick Man Tonie onto the Toniebox and listen to the story before they embark on their own stick-seeking adventure. With activity stations, sculptures, and plenty of places to run wild, it’s the perfect way to burn off their energy this half-term.

📍 Various locations across the UK

Zog Playland at Warwick Castle

If your little ones dream of becoming knightly dragons, then Zog Playland at Warwick Castle is the place to be. Before you go, pop on the Zog Tonie, where they can listen to the tale of a dragon-in-training while you pack snacks (and probably an extra change of clothes – because adventure = mud). Once there, they can take on a trail of challenges to earn a golden star, meet the flying doctors, and even step inside Zog’s dragon ambulance for an adventure straight out of the book!

📍 Warwick Castle, Warwickshire

The Gruffalo & Friends Clubhouse

If the weather isn’t playing nice (hello, February), head to the Gruffalo & Friends Clubhouse in Blackpool. This immersive indoor experience brings to life all their favourite Julia Donaldson characters, including The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, and Zog. To make the day last even longer, listen to The Gruffalo Tonie on the way there – because every good adventure starts with a good story.

📍 Blackpool, Lancashire

Gruffalo Discovery Land at Twycross Zoo

The Gruffalo Discovery Land at Twycross Zoo is a Gruffalo lover’s dream, where you can step into the deep dark wood and even meet real-life creatures that inspired Julia Donaldson’s famous characters. The best part? They can then listen to The Gruffalo’s Child Tonie as a bedtime wind-down after their fun-filled day.

📍 Twycross Zoo, Leicestershire

The Gruffalo Live!

For kids (and grown-ups) who love the theatre, The Gruffalo Live! is a must-see. This fun stage adaptation of the book is packed with music, puppetry, and plenty of laughs. Keep the excitement going by playing The Gruffalo Tonie at home – so they can relive all their favourite parts long after the curtain falls.

📍 Various locations across the UK

Chessington World of Adventures

For thrill-seeking Julia Donaldson fans, Chessington World of Adventures is the dream destination. Here, kids can float down the Gruffalo River Ride Adventure, take to the skies on the Room on the Broom – A Magical Journey, and meet some fantastic animals along the way. The perfect pairing? The Room on the Broom Tonie – play it in the car on the way there, on the way home, or both!

📍 Chessington, Surrey

Films at The Light Cinemas

Sometimes, a cozy movie day is just what’s needed, and The Light Cinemas are hosting a season of Julia Donaldson and Magic Light films until the end of February. Think The Gruffalo, Stick Man and Zog, all brought to life on the big screen. Before you head out, snuggle up and listen to the Julia Donaldson Tonies to get in the mood!

Amy’s favourite Tonie is Matilda. From a very young age, she was utterly obsessed with Matilda. She watched and read it so many times that she practically had the whole script memorised. As she grew older, she remained just like Matilda, a bookworm, a trickster, and a dreamer!
