Bonfire Night with Twinkl and tonies®

Safety and songs for 1-3 year olds

Head over to the mytonies app and assign the Bonfire Night Safety Song to their Creative-Tonie. This upbeat song has lots of top tips on how to stay safe, but most importantly how to have fun this Bonfire Night. It helps kids understand important safety rules in digestible chunks – and the sing-a-long song style makes it easier to remember. Win-win.

Then, whilst the song is playing, get your littles busy with this Twinkl Bonfire Night Matching Puzzle Game. It’s super simple to set up, all you have to do is print the cards and then cut them out. Once you’ve done that, lay them all out and encourage your kids to match the images up to make the Bonfire Night pictures. A tonie-tastic tip! Games like mazes and matching puzzles help kiddos work on building their visual-spatial reasoning skills. In other words, it helps them flex their ability to work out the position of objects, shapes and sizes. An important skill for reading maps, problem solving and visualising where things are day-to-day.

Guy Fawkes and sentence construction for 3-5 year olds

Next up, we have this terrific match! On the mytonies app you’ll find the Gunpowder Plot Song which you can assign to their Creative-Tonie. They’ll learn aaaaall about the story of Guy Fawkes and meet lots of famous faces that will tell them everything they need to know about this interesting tale.

Whilst they’re listening along, give them the Bonfire Night Writing Prompts Activity. Again, it’s easy to set up just by printing the sheets and laying them out. Encourage older ones to use the sheets to write simple sentences with the included word banks that will help them get started. The word mat with images also helps kiddies with their verbal storytelling to improve their communication and topic knowledge.

Getting kids to read and write is soooo important and the best way to do this is to give them a topic they find interesting – make it fun! Listening along to the fact-finding song on the Creative-Tonie at the same time as doing the writing activity will really get their brains buzzing!

So, are your little sparkles ready to listen and learn this Bonfire Night? Then give these Twinkl and tonies® activities a whirl!

Amy’s favourite Tonie is Matilda. From a very young age, she was utterly obsessed with Matilda. She watched and read it so many times that she practically had the whole script memorised. As she grew older, she remained just like Matilda, a bookworm, a trickster, and a dreamer!
