Summer school holiday activities with Thomas & Friends
Published 24/07/24 by Amy Blanchard
First up, we’ve got some indoor activities for when the forecast isn’t playing ball…
Spell my name on a train activity
What you'll need:
Paper
Crayons, pens, or coloured pencils
Scissors (with adult supervision, of course)
Glue or tape
How to play:
Draw and cut out train cars: First, draw a series of train cars – one for each letter of your child's name.
Label the cars: Write a letter of your child's name on each car or get them to try doing it!
Decorate: Let your kids go wild with decorations. Draw train faces, add some fun stickers, and make their train one of a kind.
Connect the cars: Use glue or tape to attach the cars together in the correct order. Ta-da! They’ve got their very own personalised name train.
Engine shed craft activity
What you'll need:
Cardboard boxes (shoe boxes work great)
Paints, crayons, or pens
Scissors (adult supervision, again!)
Glue or tape
Lollipop sticks, paper rolls, or any crafty bits and bobs
How to build:
Build the shed: Start by cutting out a large rectangle from one side of the box – this will be the door where Thomas and Percy can chug in and out.
Decorate: Paint or colour the outside of the box. Let their imaginations run wild – maybe add some bricks, windows, and a "Sodor Engine Shed" sign.
Roof time: Use another piece of cardboard for the roof. You can even use lollipop sticks to make it look like a real wooden roof.
Set up: Once complete, add to a train railway with tracks leading inside.
Days out for train lovers
Now, for those sunny days when staying indoors just won't do, here are some fantastic days out for your little train enthusiasts. Before you hit the rails, make sure they pack up their Toniebox, Tonies and headphones in our super handy Listen and Play Travel Bag.
The Watercress Line, Hampshire: Hop on a real steam train and travel through the beautiful Hampshire countryside. Thomas & Friends often visit, making it a magical day out!
The National Railway Museum, York: Dive into the world of trains with interactive exhibits, real locomotives, and plenty of Thomas-themed activities.
Thomas Land, Drayton Manor Theme Park: It's a whole world dedicated to Thomas & Friends! Rides, attractions, and even a chance to meet the Fat Controller – what more could your kiddies ask for?
East Lancashire Railway, Bury: Enjoy a scenic ride and look out for special Thomas events where their favourite engines come to life.
So, there you have plenty of fun-filled activities and adventures to keep their summer chugging along with Thomas & Friends. Don't forget to bring their Toniebox along for the ride, because every journey is better with a story or a song!
