How to entertain kids during Twixmas

Are you wondering what Twixmas means? Well you know those days in between Christmas and New Year when the majority of us are still in PJs and we’re living off chocolates or leftovers. That's Twixmas!

How to entertain kids during Twixmas

With the excitement of Christmas over for another year – and New Year not quite here – chances are your kids are starting to get a bit bored. So, we’ve put together some fun ideas and activities for those in-between quieter days.

Let the games begin

With all the new Tonies and Tonieboxes from Santa, what better time to get stuck in and give them a go! Here’s some games that you could play together as a family with the Toniebox…

  • Treasure hunt: Hide their new favourite Tonies around the house and use the Creative-Tonie to record clues to help find them. If you have multiple Creative-Tonies, then you could try assigning one clue to each and hide them, so that once one is found, they can play the clue to lead them to the next.

  • Hide & Seek: With the rest of the family blindfolded, take it in turns to pop on their best Tonie, and hide the Toniebox in a secret location. Once the Toniebox is safely hidden, the seekers must find it by listening to the story or song that’s playing.

  • Musical Clothes: Choose a musical Tonie and stand or sit in a circle. Pop it on the Toniebox and when the music plays, pass a bag of clothes around the circle. When the Tonie stops, the player with the bag has to pull out one item and put it on. Keep going until the bag is empty. Whoever has the most items of wacky clothing on is the winner!

Become a family of artists

There is no better way to keep tinies entertained than some old school arts and crafts.

  • Make Creative-Tonie outfits: Keep some of the used wrapping paper that has mounted up from presents and use it to create some mini outfits for the Creative-Tonies. It’s a genius way of repurposing what would have been rubbish.

  • Make thank you cards: Lay out their craft kit, like colouring pencils and scrapbook bits, then pop their favourite Tonie on their Toniebox to listen to as they decorate. Kids will love adding their own personal touch to the cards, not to mention how much the receiver will treasure them!

Tidy up and get set for the new year

Ok, hear us out on this one! We know this is probably the last thing you want to do over the Twixmas period but with the whole family helping out by tidying, organising and sorting that pile of new gifts can be quick work. So, blast those soundtracks that get everyone pumped, like Encanto or Playtime Action and get started. We like to call it ‘chores and choons’! Plus, tidying up is a great self care and organisation skill to teach for when they’re all grown up.

If you feel like the house is bursting to the brim with Tonies (you lucky thing!) then check out our tonies® shelves. There’s 3 styles to choose from and each one offers the cuuuuutest home for all their Tonies and Toniebox.

Go outdoors, whatever the weather

If you’re going a bit stir crazy and craving a bit of fresh air, brave the British winter weather and go explore the great outdoors. Pack up their tonies® travel bags with their favourite Tonies and headphones and head out on an adventure. Puddle jumping in the park? Take along Peppa Pig. Walking in the woods? Take along We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. Then once home warm everyone up with a yummy hot chocolate.

Or if you didn’t have enough time before Christmas to do all the festive events, many of them carry on running until the end of January. Twixmas is the perfect time to head out and continue the festive celebrations with those activities that aren’t on all year round such as Christmas markets or ice skating.

Make the most of the down time

On the other hand, you could just do nothing! Christmas is a busy time with so much planning, it’s nice to just sit back and relax afterwards. Give yourself and the kiddos those few days to take a breather from the madness of Christmas and just enjoy some down time together. Pop on a movie with blankets and popcorn or snuggle up and listen along to a family favourite Tonie, like Paddington. Heaven!

Amy’s favourite Tonie is Matilda. From a very young age, she was utterly obsessed with Matilda. She watched and read it so many times that she practically had the whole script memorised. As she grew older, she remained just like Matilda, a bookworm, a trickster, and a dreamer!
